Perspective

  on the medium of paint

The very physics of paint mirror that of the rest of the world. Paint is a controlled piece of chaos. It is something that appears to be in a concrete form but when applied opens the possibility for chance movements and encounters. The pigments are dispersed within a medium in an imperfect way. Moreover when applied to a surface, paint can do unpredictable things. In a work chance can and does interfere, but it never destroys. Instead the elastic system accepts these changes and grows because of them. The physical properties of painting allow it to mirror life.

About Grant

Grant grew up in Bedminster, New Jersey with a love for chemistry and science. Art always ran strongly, yet secretly, through his veins. It was not until he was well on his path in Chemistry that he took the plunge and changed his major to Art at Davidson College. He fell in love with the process of applying acrylic to canvas. It was as simple as that for some time. After completing his post-bac in Maryland Institute College of Art and his Masters in Painting at California College of the Arts, Grant’s journey in the arts took a sharp turn. He became so physically unwell, that he had to focus on his wellbeing for several years, making small pieces and exploring his creativity through music while building a Yoga and Fitness business. In fact, this business was born from a desire to return to large-scale paintings, pain-free.

During this journey, Grant discovered that the process held something more esoteric for him than mere application of pigment. His curiosity tapped into the divine. The fascination within the process was a spiritual seeking, a worship for the beauty that lies in this world. The results – these abstract painting – are unapologetically…paintings. And Grant wants the viewer to experience them in whatever way touches them through their own vantage point.
